About the Jersey Artist Registry

Ellen Martin created the Jersey Artist Registry in 2013 to showcase the talent of New Jersey visual artists. The purpose of the Registry is simple. If you’re a designer, collector, or gallery owner, it’s a valuable resource to find new work. Ellen does not act as an intermediary and there are no fees or commissions involved in any sales.

About Ellen Martin

Ellen Martin was born on the Museum Mile in New York City. Her life in Manhattan was rich with visits to the bones and rocks at The American Museum of Natural History, the medieval abbeys at the Cloisters, everything at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the city itself at the Museum of the City of New York. Even after moving to Brooklyn she often found herself at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and, of course, the Brooklyn Museum, where she also took several fine art courses.

At some point, Ellen moved to Brooklyn with her family where she later received her BA in Art History from Brooklyn College.

As an artist, she painted non-objective pieces from 2008 – 2014. She took a break and started shooting the “Abandoned” series of decrepit buildings and objects with her iPod touch in 2015. The initial impetus for the series was a short-lived personal rejection but it deepened to explore the depths of both personal and societal abandonment.

Ellen has experience as a Marketing Director, Conference Planner, and Artists’ Representative. She is currently an artist, an arts advocate, and an Independent Curator creating exhibits for the Oyster Point Gallery in Red Bank, NJ, and the window galleries at the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council. In 2013 Ellen created the Jersey Artist Registry, to showcase the talent of New Jersey photographers, painters, and sculptors.
