Louise Millmann

Louise Millmann is a multidisciplinary artist working in digital and analog photography, collage painting, and Gelli plate printing. Her work explores the performative use of intense color, textural surface identity, permanence, and transformation, reflecting on her extensive experience as a working artist and educator. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Louise has taught photography and experimental design for more than three decades at public schools and institutions including The New School, MoMA, the Guggenheim, and the Brooklyn Museum. Her self-portrait photo collages have been exhibited alongside Joseph Cornell’s boxes at the Zeiher-Smith Gallery in NYC, and she has been actively involved with the multinational exhibition entitled “A BOOK ABOUT DEATH”. The exhibition was launched as an underground, global art project at the Emily Harvey Foundation Gallery in New York City. Her collage works featured in A Book About Death are currently in the permanent collections of MOMA, Queens Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Her mail art envelopes and correspondence sent to artist Ray Johnson can be viewed inside the " Bob Boxes" (Box 6) at the Chicago Museum of Fine Arts. INSTAGRAM@Louisemillmann
