Marsha Heller

I was born in 1939 into a family of artists. Being daunted by the competition I faced at home, I made the decision to become a musician, although I also studied art history at Oberlin. As my music career advanced in NYC I won the Concert Artists Guild Competition. I wanted to create my publicity materials for the concert . I went to the School of Visual Arts to learn the mechanics ( this was in 1970, when it was hot type and cut and paste, no computer graphics!!!). I loved doing this kind of thing and designed many fliers, etc. for my music colleagues. Then I was invited by Irving Marantz, my husband's uncle , who taught studio art at NYU, to join his class. And I was hooked! I've been painting happily ever since!
