Nupur Nishith

Nupur Nishith is a USA-based, award-winning artist and curator known for reimagining Mithila (Madhubani) painting within a contemporary global context. Working across diverse mediums, she transforms traditional motifs into innovative works that are both culturally rooted and globally relevant, expanding the boundaries of Mithila art today. Her work has been widely exhibited and recognized at international juried exhibitions, including Honorable Mentions at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, selected by a curator from the MoMA, as well as Monmouth Museum and Watchung Arts Center. Her murals and installations are held in public and private collections, including commissions for Abigail Disney and acquisitions by the Manes Peace Foundation. Her Animodules (3D sculpture) with the Barat Foundation and Bridge Art Gallery have been showcased at venues such as the Nassau County Museum of Art. A landmark project, her hand-painted piano for Sing for Hope was installed at Central Park, Liberty Plaza, and the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, receiving national media coverage including CBS. Her work has also been exhibited at the United Nations, Gracie Mansion, Center for Contemporary Art, Morris Arts, Times Square, and she has represented the Consulate General of India, New York at international art and diplomacy events. A trailblazer in digital Mithila art, her work spans film, design, and performance. Beyond her practice, she is an active Curator, Juror, and Cultural Art advocate, Board of Artist groups including former Vice President Pro Arts. Through Creative Mithila, she continues to advance Mithila art globally.
